The Ascent Pick solution features a groundbreaking AI algorithm that can recognize what it ‘sees’ with a simple RGBD camera, distinguishing between complex and differently formed objects without the need for actual data learning or manual data marking.
FREMONT, CA: Ascent Robotics recently launched a robust but easy-to-use bin-picking solution for manufacturing industries worldwide, called Ascent Pick. Ascent Pick uses low-cost and readily available cameras. Furthermore, it features an easy-to-use web-based UI that significantly minimizes both infrastructure costs and overhead programming for manufacturers eager to exploit new industrial advancements in computer vision that promise to accelerate growth and profitability.
In the manufacturing sector, robotic bin harvesting is essential for operational efficiencies and efficient workforce management. It frees employees from the need to perform tiresome and monotonous tasks. According to Eric Truebenbach, Director of Corporate Development at Teradyne, in his ‘The Robot Report’ featuring “Is fully automated bin picking finally here?” an estimated 38 percent of the manufacturing workforce transfers parts between bins and machines handling these parts.
The Ascent Pick solution features a groundbreaking AI algorithm that can recognize what it ‘sees’ with a simple RGBD camera, distinguishing between complex and differently formed objects without the need for actual data learning or manual data marking. Besides, the Ascent Pick program and accompanying web-based UI support several different robot manufacturers and styles and grips.
The Ascent Pick solution and user interface were designed and developed in close collaboration with key industry partners. They are now commercially available from the Ascent Website or through one of their partner distributors or system integrators. “I am excited to announce the availability of Ascent Pick, making industrial AI profoundly more useful and accessible thanks to our unique combination of sophistication with simplicity,” says Ken Kutaragi, CEO, Ascent Robotics. “This will be the first of many industrial AI solutions we plan to, as we say, make in Japan and make for the World.”
Established in 2016, Ascent Robotics is a Tokyo-based AI venture led by Ken Kutaragi, Sony PlayStation’s father, designing smart solutions for robotics and mobility. In partnership with external collaborators, Ascent’s is building the new code for machine autonomy, “made in Japan, made for the world”.
